About Ilene
A native of Albany, NY, I’ve been writing for publication since high school and have been active in social media since its early days in the late 1990s.
I hold a degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. After years of writing for small newspapers and business publications, I entered the field of digital media as a news producer for washingtonpost.com, picking up skills in HTML, CSS, CMS systems, and blogging. Upon moving to Israel, I began work as a webmaster, blogger, and online marketer.
Today, I help small business and organizations improve their overall presence online. This can take the form of a new or improved website, social media marketing, and/or blogging for search engine optimization. I also focus on the use of LinkedIn, because I believe it is a growing, yet undervalued vehicle for business lead generation and marketing.
My philosophy is to be not an early adopter, but a smart adopter, assessing which new technologies and tools can work best for my clients.

When I’m not online, I enjoy spending time with my husband and friends, running, playing basketball, stretching out the damage with yoga, playing Mario Kart, and writing for my other blog, Aliyah L’Torah, about life and religion in Israel.
Note: Since I got married, some people know me as Ilana Guttman, but I’ve found it easier to keep my online and business identity the same.
